Can You Help

To Our Friends of the Lorain Lighthouse,

Last year was a bit stressful for us, to say the least!  “Your boat is sinking” are words no one should ever hear, and it was quite distressing for the volunteers and Board Members to receive that call last April.

The unrelenting issues with the 20-year-old work boat caused many delays and complications to our tour season, to the sunset dinners, and even forced a wedding relocation.  Unfortunately, after extensive repairs were made, the final straw was the failure of the steering column on what became our stoic little boat’s final journey. The board determined that a new work boat was necessary. It has been ordered and should arrive in mid-April shortly before the tour season begins. We are looking forward to many successful seasons with this new vessel!

We have received a bank loan to cover the $75,000 cost, but our fundraising team is still searching for grants or donations to help us pay off this loan quickly.  So far, we have been awarded a grant for $30,000, so we need approximately $45,000 more. Can you help?

We know there are many, many people who have enjoyed tours and dinners at the Lorain Lighthouse.  Lake Erie Magazine’s readers voted the Lorain Lighthouse, your lighthouse, the best on Lake Erie for the 10th year in a row, and we want to continue to show it off to as many people as we can.

If our lighthouse friends and everyone who toured the lighthouse or enjoyed a sunset dinner made a one-time donation of $25 to $50 or more if you are able, we would have enough funds to immediately pay off the loan. Why not show your appreciation by donating? If you are unable to donate $25 to $50, please send what you can, and ask your friends and neighbors to help too.

Checks can be made payable to The Lorain Lighthouse Foundation and mailed to 319 Black River Lane, Lorain, OH  44052, or you can donate through our website: www.lorainlighthouse.com/donate.

We are grateful for the support we receive from our visitors and community and are looking forward to continuing to provide tours, dinners, and other events for everyone to enjoy.

Sincerely,

The Lorain Lighthouse Foundation
